Prayers & Squares Quilt Ministry–
Prayers & Squares is an interfaith outreach ministry that combines the
gift of prayer with the gift of a hand-tied quilt. Unlike many
other organizations that make quilts for charitable causes, the purpose
of Prayers & Squares is not to make and distribute quilts, but to
promote prayer through the use of quilts. Our motto is: "It's
not about the quilt; it's all about the prayers."
Each
Knot Represents a Prayer - The idea behind these prayer quilts is
simple. A heavy thread is used to take stitches through the quilt
layers, and the ends are left free to be tied with square knot. As
each knot is tied, a silent prayer is said for someone in special need, who
then receives the finished quilt.
The ministry now consists of over 300 chapters around the
world. Faith Presbyterian Church is Chapter 52. If you would
like to join or like more information, please contact Joan Madler at

Women’s Association
–
This group is a study and mission focus group that gathers once a month
with other church groups; once a month as a large group for a program and
once a month for small group Bible Study. This group supports many
missions and they work at special projects to help children and local
shelters.
Attending a Circle can enrich your life
as we join together for prayer, study and loving fellowship! We look
forward to having you there!
Circle meetings are
second Thursday of the month at 11:00am in room 3.
Men’s Group
–
Meets
every Monday morning at IHOP on University, 7:30 am for study, discussion and prayer. Topics
range from Biblical subjects, to men’s issues to current ethical issues.
Coffee and snacks are provided and this group plans the annual Men’s
retreat.
We do not meet on Mondays that fall on
a national holiday.
Home Groups –
Several small groups meet in homes on a weekly, bi-weekly and monthly
basis. These are groups based on special needs or interests. There
are “Mom’s Group", “Women's Book Club" and others are in the beginning stages of
planning. These groups meeting on their own with support from church
staff. This is a “form your own group” type of ministry that studies,
discusses, eats, laughs and cries together, based on people's needs.
Mom's Group - A
small group consisting of mothers of young children was formed at the
church. We currently meet at 7:00 p.m. on the 4th Wednesday
of every month, a different mom hosting the group each month. We
meet to discuss the challenges of our individual spirituality at a time
in our lives when so much of our energy is focused on the well being of
our children. We use the Bible, other spiritual texts and fiction,
guest speakers, as well as our personal experiences to initiate
discussion. And believe me, it doesn't take much to get this group
engaged! Please contact Brenda Wilborn if you are interested in learning more about the
Mom's group.
Book Club - This
group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, at 7:00pm, to discuss books
from a variety of genres. We generally meet
for about an hour and the discussion is informal. This group is open
to men and women. Newcomers and one-time drop-ins are always welcome!
For September, we will discuss the book THE SEVILLE COMMUNION by
Arturo Perez-Reverte.
Missions supported by groups –
most large and small groups take on a special mission project for the
year, whether it be sponsoring a family at Christmas, hosting a military
family for dinner or providing company for an elderly person during a
special holiday. All groups are involved in some form of mission work.
Catamaran Mariners
– This group meets for a
potluck dinner and program on the second Friday of each month. The group is
part of a national organization that promotes Christian families and mission
work. It is based on a nautical theme and has officers representing
seafaring responsibilities. Programs range from topical to entertainment.
Fund raisers are held to provide funds to support mission projects and
support special programs within the church, such as scholarships for
seminary students and children of refugee families and overseas
missionaries. During the year the “ship” will gather in small groups for special theater
productions, concerts and trips. This is primarily a middle to older adult
ministry.
